This is an exceptional mahogany longcase clock with glass side veiwing panels to the hood of the case for the movement. The mahogany crossbanded case has been recently fully restored and is in excellent condition.

We have overhauled the movement and it is working well and keeping excllent time. Included is a winding crank, pendulum and short history of the clock. The is a well proportioned clock of very good quality.

The dial is signed John Skinner of Exeter. John Skinner Snr is listed as working from 1747 – 1774 and John Skinner Jnr as working from 1777-1803. The clock is circa 1770 and with its finely engraved single sheet silver dial we discover that the clock may have been made by John Snr or Jnr. As John Snr died in 1774 and John Jnr is first listed as 1777 it is more likely that John Jnr was to young when his father diaed to take over the family clockmaking business and learns his trade after his fathers death. I would tend to think that John Snr was the maker or the clock as the quality of the execution has a very experienced hand with the detail provided in the perfectly produced engraving on the dial. This is a fine quality clock that will provide generations of enjoyment.
