Up for auction is a rare Confederate type 5 note dated 1861 from Richmond, Virginia. The note is one of the more desired of the 72 type notes but the note contains a rare MILITARY endorsement of Edward A. Palfrey. Palfrey lated became a Lt. Colonel and was from Louisiana. There are not too many Louisiana officers on these or the interest bearing CSA notes but even more rare to find his signature on a T-5 or T-6. Palfrey, E.A. – Louisiana, captain, regimental commissary, Provisional Confederate Army. He was promoted to major, adjutant general’s department, Provisional Confederate Army, to take rank November 7, 1861.
