This is an antique Sundial Compass. The Sundial/Compass is all brass with three brass pegs for a base. This working Compass is in good condition but does have patina on several surfaces. There is a lot of engraving both decorative and technical on all surfaces – but no name or identification.
Details: The top of the sundial is hinged and a curved scale is used to set your local latitude angle. The sun’s shadow cast by the sundial’s vane marks the local time. The sundial also has a center vertical rod – I am not sure what this does. The top of the sundial and the latitude scale, vertical rod and the sundial vane are hinged to lay flat for storage. I do not know the language or the meaning of the engraving on the back.
Measures 3″ square and 2-1/2″ tall to top of vane.
