Up for auction is a Georgius III Peace Medal. It measures roughly 3 inches across. According to our research, in part, through the American Numismatic Society, this medal was offered to Indian Chiefs from 1776-1801 as a symbol of friendship and loyalty to the crown during the Revolutionary War. These medals are rare and, in fact, we initially had difficulty researching this item and finding someone who was able to identify what it was and it’s value. Research into some of the larger auction houses around the country show this item to have been auctioned from $7500 up to $25,000. It is undated as most of this time frame are. This is the 3rd Obverse and shows Georgius III with a single row of curls on the front and the back is identified by the Lion paw reaching to the letter N. A local coin dealer tested this item for us and reported that it tested as Silver.

There were three sizes of this medal made. This auction is for the largest size. The size medal that was given to a particular Indian Chief was determined by the importance of the Chief at that time. While there is some wear on the item as would be expected, it is still in good condition. We acquired this item while going through a trunk of items in the attic of a home that was inherited. All of the others items contained in the trunk as well as the trunk itself were also dated the early 1800’s and have been found to be authentic. As a result, it appears that this item is authentic as well and does not appear to be a replica although the winning bidder should note that this item does not have authentication papers. There is a strict limited return policy of 3 days if the item is found to be other than as described. Shipping on this item is free and payments must be received within three days of auction or the item will be relisted. Paypal is the preferred method of payment. Please feel free to email us with any questions or to research the item yourself prior to bidding. Thanks and Happy Bidding!
