This sign was found on the bottom of the St. Johns River many many years ago by my brother-in-law, near San Mateo in Jacksonville. This 30″ DOUBLE SIDED vintage porcelain over steel sign is in good condition, considering it’s age. I believe this sign dates to the mid 1930’s.
Old South Beer was apparently made by Southeastern Brewing Company, which started as the Atlantic Brewing Company (1867-1956) This sign is very rare. I have yet to see another one like it. I have seen a few ‘Old South Beer’ bottle caps from the same era, but never this ‘Old South Beer, Full of Good Cheer’ advertising. The colors are still very bold and bright. This sign is in remarkable condition. There are a few small caliber bullet holes which just add to the character. See the pictures of both sides.This is a beautiful sign that looks good anywhere. If you’re a collector of porcelain signs, vintage americana, or beer signs, this one would be great to add to your collection.
