Monumental Stieff C1910 Sterling Silver Tea Kettle & Matching Stand; Original Burner; Excellent Condition; 83 Ounces We are pleased to offer this monumental, c1910 Stieff sterling silver hand decorated kettle on matching stand. Founded by Charles Stieff in Baltimore in 1892, as the Baltimore Sterling Silver Co. Became Stieff & Co. in 1904. Early Stieff such as this was the finest ever produced by the firm. Since retained many of the original staff, especially the chasers, from when they were the Baltimore Sterling Silver Company. Classic raised pear design. Brilliant all over hand chased leaf and floral sprays. Unusually large flowers in an array of forms. Carved in exceptional relief from the satin background surface. Well cast and fit domed cover. Georgian inspired ruffle gadroon edge. Raised flower and leaf finial, original fastener below. Leaf and vine chased overhead swing handle, original heat stops. The kettle secured perfectly atop matching footed stand. Conforming raised floral on satin. Hallmarked burner fits in slot and notch frame. The natural substance tip handle controls the butterfly doors, for precise heat. The stand itself retains the chained securing pins as shown. Supported atop satin chased, layered shell and vine cap ruffled edge shell feet. Never monogrammed. Stieff kettle on matching stand 15 1/2 inches tall and 10 1/2 spout to edge. Thick, heavy guage sterling construction weighs 83 1/2 (standard) ounces. Hallmarked as shown. In excellent condition. Interior mostly clean, as if little used. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. The raised floral sprays on satin retain their original rich, vibrant detail. Cover well fit and the handle secure and with original heat stops.
