Two-piece convex brassTexas uniform button, with rim (staff), coat size; 22.5 mm. The front of the button has a lined field, a large five-pointed star in the middle of the face, the word “TEXAS” in raised letters above the star, and a wreath of oak leaves encircling the rest of the edge. The back of the button has a sturdy shank and the back mark: “SCOVILL MF’G CO. WATERBURY.” in small depressed letters between dotted lines. The button is listed as TX 20 in Albert’s Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons, Bicentennial Edition. Tice dates the back mark at 1860’s.
